Workshop Logistics

The workshop will be held at the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping on the University of New Hampshire Durham, NH campus (directions here). Parking will be available on a very limited basis at the building, and in a nearby parking lot (less than 5 min. walk) if required. The agenda is available; presentations will take place in the RAdm Brennan Conference Room (room 210 on the floor plans), which will be sign-posted from the parking lot and main building entrance.

Hands-on Demonstrations

The hands-on demonstrations for data processing and software tools will be held in the computer teaching space (room 142 on the floor plans). The computers are pre-loaded with software and data required for the demonstrations; participants can bring their own laptops if they prefer. Guest WiFi is available throughout the lab.

On-water demonstrations will be conducted with the R/V Gulf Surveyor, the CCOM research vessel, from the University's dock at the Judd Gregg Marine Research Complex on New Castle Island. The Gulf Surveyor is fully equipped with necessary safety equipment (hard hats, float coats); visitors will be given a safety brief on boarding, and are required to have closed-toe non-slip shoes. The weather in March in New Hampshire can be variable, so warm clothing is recommended.

Logger Installations

The R/V Gulf Surveyor has navigation and survey single-beam echosounders on board, along with a survey-grade GNSS-aided IMU with NTRIP corrections, and provides NMEA0183 (two-wire) and NMEA2000 (5-pin standard plug) networks for the navigation echosounder and separate logging for the survey echosounder if required. Spare NMEA2000 connectors, t-pieces and terminators are available. An antenna bar is available on the pilot-house roof with two spare 5/8" screw mount stubs for antenna mounting; the ship has a well-established reference frame based on a scanning lidar survey conducted on delivery, and an offset diagram is available. Clean 120V a.c. power (with US-style sockets) is readily available next to the proposed logger installation site, along with 12V d.c. power if required. Data capture computers on the ship's science network are available for use, along with Ethernet hard-wire connections. The ship provides WiFi connectivity; uplink is through a StarLink dish at all times.

Lodgings

There are limited lodgings available in Durham (15-20 min. walk) at the Holiday Inn Express or Three Chimneys Inn, and many more options in Portsmouth (25-30 min. drive), for example at the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn and Suites, AC Hotel by Marriott, and Sheraton among others. Other options exist in Dover (e.g., the Garrison Hotel) which is about 5 miles from campus.
